Post #1 by pgi947 » Sun Jul 06, 2014 8:34 pm

I was pleasantly surprised to see EK-Derick to sign up to the forums earlier today all the way from Ljubljana, Slovenia, he has agreed to have a kind of support thread here at MLG :)

So for all of your EK Water-Blocks support and questions....fire away.

Subbed :)

Glad to be here guys. Can't guarantee I'll remember to check every day but I'll do my best to answer any questions in a decent amount of time.

ooooh excellent! - first question then:

I have EK Supremacy, EK FC-290, all powered by an EK DDC X-RES 100. Tis all controlled and monitored through an AE5 Pro.

I've had various DDC pumps in the past but always used them with an XSPC Res top which made hardly any noise at all, however this X-RES top really whines!!!
http://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-ddc-x-res-1 ... cetal.html

Is there anything I can do to reduce the whine it makes when ramped up? - I'm having to throttle it with the AE5 (whilst idling) to just 100L/pm(?) - If it goes higher than that the whining REALLY becomes noticeable and stands out above all other components.

Remove the EK logo in the middle? Remove the spongee thing? Any advice welcome, thanks.

I'd suggest reassembly of the top/pump. The EK logo won't effect it at all, and highly unlikely that the sponge will, but you could try that as well.

If the whining continues, you'll be eligible for replacement, assuming you're the original purchaser and it was within the last 2 years. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Thanks for the response bud, yeah I've only had it about 3 months and it's always been this noisey. I've got it sitting ontop of some sponge but that makes no change to the sound it gives. Whole point of watercooling was to reduce fan noise but this is really noisey and defeats it all tbh.

I'm not 100% sure the pump is at fault - it might just be the way it is - I'll try to shoot a vid and get it posted - you should be able to tell from that if its above or beyond normal noise levels. Using Mayhems XT-1 with Mayhems de-ionised/distilled water.

If I take it to bits - won't that void the warranty?

I don't mean take it apart completely. Just separate the top from the pump, shouldn't void your warranty. Inspect the parts and give a good rinse. Put it back together normally and see if the noise continues.

Derick, is there an EK waterblock for a R9 290 which replaces the Gigabyte 3x wind force array? This isn't a stock cooler as you are probably aware.

thanks

Assuming it's one of these: Card 1 or Card 2, then yes you're good to go :)

If neither of those are the exact card you're talking about, checking out http://coolingconfigurator.com and search for it.
